This beautifully written comedy takes us into the lives of a group of people living in a once elegant but now aging twenty-story apartment building in a large city on the East Coast. The play shows us how their lives are changed when a middle aged man from Short Top, Tennessee arrives to apply for a position in the building.

PETER LARS SANDBERG is this year’s winner of the W Keith Hedrick Playwriting Contest. His play, Sugar Britches, will be presented as the final production of the season on 16 May , 2009. Mr. Sandberg is a writer of suspense novels and short stories. His work has appeared in the Liteary Review, Saturday Review, Best American Short Stories, Best Little Magazine Fiction, Playboy, Good Housekeeping, and McCall’s. His novels and stories have been translated into numerous foreign languages, and one story, Calloway’s Climb, was made into a television movie, starring Mariette Hartley and Patrick O’Neal.
Mr. Sandberg’s papers are now part of the Twentieth Century Archives collection at Boston University. He was inspired to write Sugar Britches by his wife, Nancy Whitaker, and by having enjoyed six seasons of watching plays from his balcony seat at the Barnstomers summer theatre in Tranworth, NH. Peter and Nancy spend six months each year in Tranworth , and the other six in New York City.
